How long do you think you can live without food? You might live no longer than three weeks without food. Food is one of the most important and essential factors to live our lives, so people are always concerned about food. Nowadays, genetically modified foods are one of the largest controversies in the world. To help in understanding, genetically modified (GM) foods are a result of recombinant DNA biotechnological procedures that allow the genetic makeup of an organism to be modified. This can be accomplished by incorporating genes from other organisms or by rearranging genes already present. ¹ Actually, the safety of the environment and human organisms from GM foods is not verified yet; so many people say that GM foods must be banned temporarily until the safety of GM foods is confirmed. GM foods lead to the disruption of surrounding ecosystems; in addition, the unknown hazards of GM foods, which are more cost-effective to grow and improve the shelf life of foods, will lead to the devastation of the food web in the ecosystem. There are three reasons why GM food must be banned.
