본문내용
As the writer Wyndham Lewis wrote about a Global Village in his book, the world is continuously interacting and with advanced technology, barriers are eliminated, which connects people across the world in a village scale. However, because different people live in different cultures, a conflict arises in communication. Communication researchers defined various cultures on the dimensions of cultural variability, which affects how people communicate. The most studied dimension of cultural variability that is used to compare and contrast cultures is collectivism-individualism.

The two different conversational strategies have both advantages and disadvantages. If a person attempts to use the hinting strategy, the message will be less clear because the intent is not communicated explicitly, therefore is not derivable from the literal meaning of the utterances. Within one’s culture, communicating with a hint sends a more implicit message, thus, delivering the message successfully. However, in cross-cultural situations, the message is not understood. In a task-oriented constraint, people may hurt other persons’ feelings unintentionally but clarity-purposed conversation will prevent future mistakes.
