Cubiodal, nonciliated cell in terminal bronchioles
Basally-situated nucleus
Apical dome extending variable distances into the airway lumen
Discrete, oval densely-staining granules
Multifunctional cell
Barrier maintenance, Secretion, and Metabolism (Stripp and Reynolds, 2006)
Antibody reagents specific to the secretoglobin (SCGB1A1) family identifies Clara cell on the basis of secreted protein expression (Reynolds et al., 2002).
