With the prevalent trend of cultural, academic exchange among nations through publications and media, the need of competent translators has been significantly increased around the world. This trend leads translators to the question as to whether multilingual competence of a translator is the only prerequisite for a successful translator. Albeit that proficiency in more than two languages is the one of the essential preconditions for a competent translator, there are several indispensable requirements for the translator: cultural knowledge, translating skills in accordance with context and teamwork. In this essay, these three main arguments will be the basis for considering the requirements for a successful translator.
