Curriculum has 3 subcomponents : syllabus design, methodology, evaluation.
In this chapter, Methodology includes
a. study of the nature of language skills
b. study of the preparation of lesson plans, materials, and textbooks for teaching language skill
c. the evaluation and comparison of language teaching methods
2. Background to language teaching methodology
· The "methods" debate
→ A language teaching method : A single set of procedures
Last century : dominant method is grammar translation method.
1950s ~ 1960s : Audiolingualism(based on a thoery of learning behaviorism)
1960s : behaviorism → cognitive psychology. New theory called transformational-generative grammar.
