Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN)
TEN is an acute life-threatening mucocutaneous disorder.
TEN is most commonly caused by drugs and begins with a prodrome of fever, anorexia, pharyngitis and morbilliform rash.
TEN is a systemic disease involving the ophthalmic, pulmonary, genitourinary, and gastrointestinal systems, in addition to the skin.

HISTORY & CLASSIFICATION
It is also known as Lyell syndrome, which was first delineated by Alan Lyell in 1956.
While SJS and TEN may well be variants of the same spectrum of disease, differing by the severity of body surface area affected, some experts believe that they are etiologically and pathologically distinct diseases.
SJS may be defined by the involvement of ≥ 2 mucous membranes of by the relatively smaller percentage of body surface area affected when compared to TEN.
