He was a Russian physician, dramaturge and author who is considered to be among the greatest writers of short stories in history.
While works reflect the frequently turbulent developments specific to his homeland, their lasting appeal lies in Chekhov's talent for exploring universally human situations with grace and dexterity.
Anton Chekhov was born on the feast day of 29 January 1860, the third of six surviving children, in Taganrog, a port on the Sea of Azov in southern Russia.

In 1876, The family lived in poverty in Moscow, Chekhov was left behind to sell the family possessions and finish his education.
In 1879, Chekhov completed his schooling and joined his family in Moscow, having gained admission to the medical school at Moscow University
Chekhov's fist book of stories (1886) was a success, and gradually he became a full-time writer.
Chekhov was awarded the Pushkin Prize in 1888. The next year he was elected a member of the Society of Lovers of Russian Literature.
In 1901 Chekhov finally married to an actress, Olga Knipper, had performed in his plays. But their bliss would be short lived, Chekhov died on July 15, 1904, in Badenweiler, Germany. He is buried in the cemetery of the Novodeviche Monastery in Moscow.
