본문내용
Most people hear false promises everyday for social, economy or psychological reasons: to protect themselves, to gain benefits or just simply for their convenience. For instance, there are exaggerated advertisements, broken political commitments and fraud. Even though human beings are taught not to make false promises in society, because it is said that kind of behaviors are against human morals, there are moments that lying is needed for certain reasons. Sometimes lying could bring positive results than honesty and truth. In this paper, how Kant approaches to false promise will be discussed in his theory which is categorical imperative. The aim of this essay is to demonstrate even though false promises in Kant's philosophy are considered as immoral, depending on the situation, false promise sometimes could perform better than truth in terms of usefulness when it is applied to modern issues. Sewol-ho ferry accident and Boko Haram's kidnapping will be used as examples to see how false promise works in two different modern issues.
