1. The meaning expressed by a causative sentence is a situation is brought about-caused-by whatever the subject noun phrase refers to and the caused situation is described by the embedded clause.
The minister resigned the civil servant is causative. Because it’s the civil servant was fired by the minister. The passive object is the civil servant, not the minister. I mean an action (resignation) by the subject (the minister) directly caused the object (the civil servant) to do something (to resign).
The minister made the civil servant resign has two causative. One is directly causative. It’s the same meaning with The minister resigned the civil servant. The other is indirectly causative. As if the case was caused later, not immediately, it is not directly. For example, minister announced in February and civil servant resign later than, the causation was indirect.
