Women in advertisement have been used as a method of sex appeal for many years. The reason that sex appeal is so popular in advertisement is that it triggers curiosity of the consumer’s basic motive of sex and brings out intensive attention from readers and makes them concentrate on the ads easily. The problem of this advertising technique occurs when women in advertisement are portrayed as dependent creatures that need men in order to survive. Images of women in ads shape people’s attitudes of “how women are supposed to behave and the roles they are supposed to occupy within the society” (Lindner 409). These advertisements bring up various problems associated with morality, violence, exaggeration, lasciviousness of advertising and misrepresentation of women. In fact, one study has showed that young female in adolescence compare themselves to models in the ads for physical attractiveness and are much more likely to be influenced by ads (Martin, Gentry and Hill).
