Biofuel as a future energy resource
Currently, most countries in the Earth are depending on fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum. Due to overuse of energy resources, the world is facing a serious energy crisis, as Jeremy Rifkin, president of the Foundation on Economic Trends, warned in the interview with Wind Directions. Rifkin was also concerned about repercussions of using fossil fuels such as global warming and increase of oil prices. As a solution of these problems, He suggested using renewable energy.
Of various forms of renewable energy, biofuel has risen as an innovative future energy resource. Biofuel is expected to be produced with lower cost than fossil fuels, especially in developing countries where agriculture is main industry. However, environmental effect of biofuel is still controversial. Using biofuel could decline the CO2 emission but converting forest and grassland to cropland can release high amount of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.
