1. Objective of Experiment
The objective of this experiment is to understand the HVAC(heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system and vapor compression cycle system through the experimental accomplishment.2. Basic Theory2.1. The Reversed Carnot Cycle
A heat engine receives heat from a high-temperature medium and rejects heat to a low-temperature medium. In this heat engine, if both temperatures of mediums remain constant and every process is reversible , the cycle is also reversible. We called this cycle the Carnot cycle, which is the most efficient. If the Carnot cycle is reversed, the heat engine becomes a refrigerator or heat pump. The Refrigerator and heat pump are essentially the same device but they only differ in their objectives. The purpose of a refrigerator is the removal of heat from a low-temperature medium. The purpose of a heat pump is the transfer of heat to a high-temperature medium. The performance of refrigerators and heat pump is expressed in terms of coefficient of performance (COP), defined as
