In the late 20th century, the consumption of CSD had kept growing, therefore Coca-Cola and Pepsi were in the competition in the good faith. For 3 decades from 1970, the annual average growth rate of CSD consumption in the U.S. was 3%. So they did not have to fight fiercely to take over the limited market share, like what they have been doing in the 21st century when the CSD consumption had finally begun to decrease, but were motivators to each other which made them keep fousing on self-development and growing the pie of the CSD market.

Coca-Cola and Pepsi have been operating as manufacturers in the CSD industry for more than a century. The competition between the two CSD giants kept the industry quite profitable (Further detailed explanation of this issue can be found in discussion question C).
