In 2003 the National Museum of Korea held the special exhibition entitled ‘A Journey of Soul: The Buddhist Painting of the Joseon Period’. This exhibition introduced about forty Buddhist paintings of the Joseon period. These paintings show scenes from hell to paradise. This volume published based on this exhibition. As can be expected from the title ‘A Journey of Soul’ this publication provides the viewpoint of the people lived in Joseon dynasty on hell and paradise in Buddhism and the ideal world of Buddha.
