Make a hollow circular shaft as shown in Fig. 1a. The radius of the shaft is 50mm, the radius of hollow is 25mm. The shaft length is 1000mm.
Define the material constants for the structure: Young’s modulus E_1=2E+11 Pa, Possion’s ratio υ_1=0.3.
When the torqe 5000N.m, determine the maximum shearing stress, stress components and the angle of twist. Compare the numerical results with theoretical results.

From the last report, I have found accuracy and optimal meshing method of FEM simulation with ANSYS Workbench about 2D beam bending problems. In this time, I have solved the 3D torsion problem with analytical solution and FEM simulation with ANSYS Workbench. Moreover, considering safety factor such as Tresca criterion and Von-Mises criterion for the two types of the shaft physical model was implemented. As in previous report, the analytical solution and FEM simulations are quite similar. Safety factors of each criterion (Tresca, Von-Mises) are around 4.5 and 5.5 respectively that means the Tresca criterion has more rigorous safety standard than Von-Mises.
