1. Introduction
Hardness tests have been usually conducted in industries because of ease and convenience for materials evaluation, development efforts, and quality control of manufacturing processes and research. Also, hardness can be correlated to tensile strength for many metals and alloys and is also an indicator of machinability, wear resistance, toughness and ductility.
Meanwhile, there are many methods for hardness tests such as Brinell, Rockwell, Vickers, and Knoop hardness test. At this time, microindentation Vickers hardness test, one of the Vickers hardness tests, is conducted. Microindentation tests are utilized to evaluate and quantify hardness variations that occur over a small distance and permit hardness testing of specific phases or constituents and regions or gradients too small for evaluation by macroindentation tests.
In this test, conduct the Vickers hardness test with 0.3 wt% C steel and Al 6061 specimens, which are handled by different heat treatments, and calculate Vickers hardness numbers by using measured diagonals of indentations.
