Executive summary
Current performance in instant noodle market is not good as Ottogi overtakes the market share of Samyangfood. This happens largely because of plummeting sales volume of Nagasaki jjamppong. This marketing research report utilizes focus group, survey and other sources of information in order to clarify why sales of Nagasaki jjamppong has declined and find out a solution to increase the sales volume of it.
Current situation
Since Samyangfood was overtaken by Nongshim in instant noodle industry in 1980’s, it has kept its second position in that industry. However, its second position was also overtaken by Ottogi in December, 2012. Ottogi was even not an expertise on instant noodles. Even though it is not confirmed yet this is temporary or persistent tendency, definitely it seems that Samyangfood needs some kind of revolution and change to secure its second position.
Problems
It was possible for Samyangfood that it had defended its second position because of booming trend on white colored broth noodles.
