본문내용
These days, people say that the status of women has come to be highly improved than ever. About a century ago, however, there was a lot of discussion about women’s status and whether they should be given several serious rights or not. Therefore, considering those backgrounds, it’s not very difficult to detect that this play titled Trifles is deliberately meant to show the aspect of society that women had to confront and solve on their own at that time; and the year when and the place where Trifles came out exactly indicate the idea: 1916, US. And Susan Glaspell, the author, symbolizes those ideas with a series of images and senses.
In the story, it is found that there are two sort of world: men’s and women’s, which are totally different and separated. And we can find there is conflict between them. Men’s world is usually described as strong, reasonable and indifferent to the trifles whereas women’s is generally depicted rather helpless, passive and obsessed with the tiny things.
