Measures taken to hinder this rapid spread
Quarantines were imposed
Citizens were ordered to wear
masks and to avoid shaking hands
and to always stay indoors.
Spitting on the streets was banned
Public places (schools, churches and theaters) were totally shut down.
Schools, private homes and other buildings were used as hospitals and were usually staffed by medical students, since hospitals in some areas were so overloaded with flu patients.
