1. What, historically, have been Apple`s competitive advantages?
Apple’s historical advantages can be boiled down to three essential components: the former and current CEOs’ extraordinary vision, philosophy, and marketing strategies.
Since the foundation of the company in 1976, Apple’s success has largely depended on the CEOs’ distinctive vision and philosophy that were unparalleled to its competitors, such as Microsoft and Google. In retrospect, Apple did not begin as an ordinary computer manufacturing company, but a company with a unique vision that was never seen from any other company in the market. For example, Steve Jobs, one of Apple’s co-founders, had a strong faith in creating a product that not only draws attention, but something that truly touches customers’ heart. One analyst famously said that when the majority of IBM customers just ‘put up’ with their computers, Apple’s customers ‘love’ their Macintosh. (Pg.2) As seen from the quote, former Apple CEO Steve Jobs had strived to put his heart and soul into making the products that captured customers’ royalty.
