Extensive Reading in the Second Language Classroom
Every teacher is likely to agree with the idea that reading is the most important way to learn English, so teachers should teach how to read, give a plenty of time for students to read, and help them to enjoy reading. However, it's not easy for Korean English teachers to have such reading classes in reality. In my case, I have a reading class once a week in which a student can read the book he or she chooses to read. However, whenever I should finish a performance test(수행평가) or can't finish teaching the rest part of the textbook I should have taught for a up-coming test, I am willing to skip the reading class. In addition, to be honest, I put all the priorities on teaching students how to translate English into Korean line by line, explaining grammatical rules in order to pass the necessary examinations. That's why I decided to enter graduate school to have chances of thinking about how to integrate helpful reading practices into my reading class, and I decided to take this learner literature and English education course.
