[요론]저-코스트의 공기질 측정 센서를 이용해 기상환경 공기질 모니터링, 지역사회 미기상환 경 공기질 모니터링, 시민사회적 뜨거운 쟁점에 대한 스크리닝(screening), 정성적・정량 적 시민/주민 모니터링 등을 중소기업 연구소와 시민 연구가도 실시할 수 있어야 한다. 특히 우리나라 중소기업 연구소에서는 다종다양한 기상환경 오염물질을 선택적으로 흡 착하는 특정적 흡착제나 선택성 촉매를 개발하여, 각양각색의 기상환경 오염물질을 특 정화하고 효율적으로 정성・정량 분석을 할 수 있는 공기질 측정기를 개발할 수 있고, 이 부문에서의 지구적 경쟁력도 확립할 수 있을 것으로 기대해 마지않는다.

1. 기상환경과 공기질 보전
초미세분진의 PM-2.5와 오존(ozone)의 O3와 휘발성 유기화합물 (VOCs: volatile organic compounds) 및 질소산화물(NOx) 등의 기상환경 오염물질 내지 대기환경 오염물질은 인 류와 동식물에 대해 심대한 호흡성 질환이나 심혈관장애 및 여타의 건강 악영향을 일 으키고 있다. 전래적으로 기상환경 중의 공기질・대기질과 오염물질 농도에 대해서는 미국연방정부나 지방정부의 규제기관에서 복잡하고 값비싼 고정 위치의 측정 및 분석 기자재를 이용하여 모니터링하고 있다. 모니터링의 위치나 지점은 그러한 측정 및 분석 장치를 운용하고 유지관리할 수 있는 훈련된 기술자의 확보여부와 모니터링 기자재의 성능과 코스트에 의해 한정되어 있다.
대기질 측정·분석 지자재가 점유하는 공간이 비교적 작고 점유밀도도 작아야 하기 때문 에, 이용가능한 위치 고정식 대기 모니터링 사이트는 대부분이 폭넓은 지리적 지역에 걸쳐서 공기질을 측정하도록 디자인되어 있다. 그러한 기자재는 미기상 환경의 공기질 조건 및 미소지역의 공기질 조건을 충분히 파악하는데 필요한 미분진과 미립자의 측정 에 있어서는 충분하지 못한 실정이다[1].
