1) Bacterial Growth
The method of bacteria growth occurs through cell division or asexual reproduction. In this process known as binary fission the bacterium is divided into two daughter cells. Generally, the daughter cell is genetically the same as the original cell. The time that take the cell to be divided into two daughter cells is referred to as generation time.
Bacteria that grow in batch culture are modeled with 4 phases. They are the lag phase, log phase (exponential phase), stationary phase, and death phase (decline phase).
First the lag phase is when bacteria adapt to the growth conditions. In this phase the bacteria are in the process of maturing and they are not able to divide yet. As the bacteria does not reproduce in a new medium the change in cells are very little. Second is the log phase. It is the phase where the cell doubles. In the log phase the growing will continue resulting the number of cells and the rate of population to double each consecutive time.
