Introduction
Gallbladder disease in children is perceived as rare and invariably associated with underlying hemolytic disease.
Increasing likelihood of finding other associated conditions such as prematurity, necrotizing enterocolitis, and cystic fibrosis or conditions necessitating total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
Epidemiology
Approximately 20 million adults in the United States have gallstones, and approximately 300,000 cholecystectomies are performed yearly.
