본문내용
1. Introduction
The transitional justice scheme in Sierra Leone was unique, especially it was the very first case of paralleling the Special Court and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to bring justice and reconciliation to both the perpetrators and the victims. The Special Court for Sierra Leone was set up in 2002 in response to the government of Sierra Leone’s request to the United Nations in 2000 for "a special court" to address serious crimes committed against civilians and UN peacekeepers during the country's civil war between 1991 to 2002. This paper reviews the work of the Special Court and the Truth Commission in Sierra Leone and the lessons we learn from their case of paralleling the two agencies.
2. The Civil war in Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone became independent from England in 1961. In 1967, the All People's Congress (APC) party won the general election but could not hold its house due to the military revolt.
