1. Objective
1) To know about characteristics of double pipe heat exchanger.
2) To calculate overall heat transfer coefficient by heat transfer equation.
3) To calculate logarithmic mean temperature difference and overall heat transfer coefficient with equipment, then discuss about efficiency of parallel flow and counter flow.
2. Theory
1) Heat transfer
Heat is a form of a energy and the particles that make up an object have energy. Therefore, heat transfer occurs because the particles vibrate, move and deliver kinetic energy to the surrounding particles. The types of heat transfer include conduction, convection, and radiation.
① Conduction
Conduction is a phenomenon where thermal energy is transmitted from high to low temperatures without movement of materials. It occurs usually inside of solids, and rate of conductivity varies depending on the type of material, so it is expressed by a thermal conductivity.
