As the general level of science and technology has improved, cognizance of global humanity on environmental issues has also become spread out all over the world. Naturally, global consumption tendency starts to pay attention to eco-friendly novel materials. Biofuels and Bioplastics are examples of those materials, which means valuable items produced from biomasses, such as wood logs and corn stalks. Furfural, mainly derived from biomasses, also can be the bottom material for various biomaterials as shown as Fig 1.
For raw material of furfural production, CBE442 project team H1 adopted hemicellulose, which can be prepared from various biomasses, or more clearly, xylose oligomer. Although xylose itself is not such an inexpensive chemical, the pentose can be extracted from several agricultural masses.
