1. What is the setting of the story? What country is it set in? Are the characters speaking in English? What is the vernacular?
The setting of the story is a café which has two waiters and narrator describes it as “a clean, well-lighted café”.
It is set in Spain.
We can assume through the vernaculars that the characters are actually talking Spanish but the narrator transfers it to English.
The vernacular is a dialogue or narration written in the language or dialect spoken by the ordinary people of a country or region. In here, bodegas, hombre are the vernacular.
