본문내용
In the essence of his short story “Cathedral,” wife’s blind friend and the narrator draws the cathedral together by placing Robert’s hands over Bub’s drawing hands while one is listening and the other one is watching a television program about the church in the Middle Ages (Cathedral, 209-228). Bub possesses a full sight, but is blind, while Robert is blind, but can see clearly. It is the same situation as what happened in Sophocles’ Oedipus: Oedipus couldn’t see clearly with a full sight while Tiresias see truth even though he is blind. In addition, both normal sight-having people were instructed by the blind. Through the last sentence “It’s really something,” Carver gives us a lesson. “Conventional vision is not the only way to see things and that the eyes are not the only organs with which one can view the world ”
