본문내용
Tadao Ando (Figure 1) was born in Osaka, Japan in 1941. Unlike most contemporary architects, Ando never studied architecture at school and never practiced or worked at an established firm. As Ando explains “I was studying architecture by going to see actual buildings and reading about them.” He trained himself by reading and traveling extensively through Africa, Europe, and the United States during the 1960’s. By the 1969, he had gained enough training to pass his licensing exam and in 1970, and he established ‘Tadao Ando Architect & Associates.’ Ando had been awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1995, and his architecture was described by the jury at the foundation as “an assemblage of artistically composed surprises in space and form . . . that both serve and inspire. . . with never a predictable moment as one moves throughout his buildings.” He has been a significant role model to perspective architects and a great influence to the world of architecture today.
