According to Wikipedia, “Racism refers to beliefs, practices, and institutions that discriminate against people based on their perceived or ascribed race (Wikipedia).” In his article, Redefining Racism, Alan J. Levine says “Racism, they argued, confused biology with culture. Some also argued for various degrees of “cultural relativism” which denied that the cultural achievements of any group were greater than those of any other, but that idea does not seem to have been taken very seriously by most people in the 1940s and ’50s (Levine).” This play, Lorraine Hansberry, A Raisin in the Sun, write the story of an African American family who live in poor area like the slum of a city in the Southside of Chicago. When I read this play, I could find a lot of things such as racism, conflicts among family members, and the confect of personal desire. I think the author, Lorraine Hansberry, drew those things well. As a matter of fact, most people who lived in that time wanted financial success whatever she/he did. They wanted to be successful. This is usually called ‘American Dream.’ Even though a lot of unfair dealing happened such as race discrimination, many people still dreamed that. In this play, the Younger family confronts variety dilemmas which disturb their life to success.참고 자료
