본문내용
John Milton was born in 1608. He is the one of the greatest poets of the English language, best-known for his epic poem Paradise Lost(1667). Milton was educated at Christ`s College, Cambridge. While Milton was at Cambridge he wrote poetry in both Latin and English, including lyrics "L`Allegro" and "Il Penseroso".
Francis Bacon was born in 1561. He was an English lawyer, scientific philosopher, statesman, intellectual reformer, and essayist. He took a seat in the House of Common. He was removed from office for accepting a litigant`s bribe. As a result, he lost his personal honour and his place. In Novum Organum, he proposed an entirely new system based on empirical and inductive principles, which constituted a breakthrough in the approach to science rather than the a priori method of medieval scholasticism. So philosopher and scientists of the day repudiated both his theory and methodology. Bacon believed that all of the men`s problems could be resolved by science. He argued that only the practical knowledge which was empirically rooted in the natural world was the true knowledge and that could be of benefit to men.
