Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has taken a resolute step to the Yasukuni shrine Tuesday despite a strong objection of Seoul and Beijing. There are two different meanings in his visit. One is who visited the Shrine was the very Japanese Prime Minister and the other is when the visit happened was on Aug 15.
It was placed remains of the Japanese war dead in the Shrine, but among them convicted 14 Class A war criminals were enshrined together there. 14 Class A war criminals in World War II are wartime leaders who were convicted of `crime against peace` by IMTFE(International Military Tribunal for the Far East) organized in Tokyo after the war and 7 among them were sent to the gallows and 7 were died in their prison term.
Whether there would be a superficial justification for a visit or not, That Japanese Prime Minister visits there enshrined together 14 criminals means he pays a tribute to the memory of them and it`s like an indulgence of Japanese war responsibility. This is why sensible Japanese people and the whole world who was a victim of WW II, especially Seoul and Beijing have desperately persisted in their opposition to Japanese Prime Minister`s visit.
There is the tremendous symbolism on Aug 15 because it is Liberation day in Korea and the anniversary of the end of war in Japan.
