It has been argued for centuries whether people inherit language through nature, or learns it through nurture. Most psychologists believe that people learn language through the environment, which is surrounding them. However, some believe people inherit the capacity and mental program genetically to learn language. Not only people but also animals can learn language as well by using sign languages. Also language can be differentiated by gender and culture. Through the studies of psychologists, it is believed that language is obtained through both of nature, and nurture.
Nurture is a process in which people learn through environment surrounding us. B.F Skinner is one of the psychologists who agreed with the nurture process. The result of his experiment showed that children learn language well by the reward they receive, which is called “operant conditioning”. For instance, when a student does his/her work well such as homework, the teacher will award him/her a sticker or candy
