Anyone or Any society cannot expose their fault easily, even though that is necessary and meaningful. Thats why it is surprising that Hollywood started to make many meditative films which reveal how minority racial groups had been discriminated and being discriminated. Snow Falling on Cedars is one of them, depicted disgraceful American history about racial discrimination toward Japanese -Americans during the World War Ⅱ.
Although this voluntary reflection is laudable, it is necessary to analyze how the film reconstruct history and question oneself Does this movie reflect on racial problem as it is?. From now on, I will analyze four main aspects of Snow Falling on Cedars :1)the film as a historical source, 2)the films narrative and perspective, 3)representation of race, racism, and freedom, and 4)representation of Asian female and interracial romance. By analyzing these aspects, I would like to disclose that this movie is actually not a reflection of U.S. history about racial discrimination of Japanese-American, but all about proud American.

Film as a Historical Source
Snow Falling on Cedars is a fiction but it is a historical movie which raise racial issue based on American history. As a historical movie, we should examine how the historical fact is represented and what is fictionalized.
