What is successful Second Language Acquisition?
The CPH says that if someone misses the critical period to learn the second language, he or she is impossible to learn second language successfully, because they pass over a biological time when language can be easily obtained. If so, what is the exact meaning of successful SLA? The validity of CPH can be judged by what "successful learning of SLA" refers to, so this theory needs to be reexamined. I am going to suggest several standards defining successful SLA that I assume, and judge the validity of CPH in turn.
1) When the learners acquire the understanding of language structure and reading skill is the time they succeed in SLA.
=> Although the definition that I mentioned above may not be wholly accepted, but if so, the cognitive level of pre-13-age children should be reconsidered in this condition. The point is that their cognitive level is not high enough to acquire the structure of second language. Therefore, children can not successfully learn second language in critical period due to their limited capacities of cognition.
