The Main Subject
Lithium ion batteries ,sometimes abbreviated Li-Ion, are a type of rechargeablebattery commonly used in consumer electronics(가전제품). They are currently one of the most popular types of battery, with one of the best energy-to-weight ratios, no memory effect and a slow loss of charge when not in use. They can be dangerous if mistreated, however, and unless care is taken they may have a shorter lifespan(수명) compared to other battery types.
Lithium ion batteries are a key device in portable IT products, and are widely used as a power source for cell phones, notebook-type personal computers, etc. Organic solvents such as ethylene carbonate and diethyl carbonate are used as the electrolyte(전해질) in lithium ion cells in order to generate high voltages, but because these are flammable(가연성) substances, securing safety in case of misuse and in large-scale batteries has been a long-standing problem. As a solution to this problem, an all solid-state lithium ion battery which uses an nonflammable inorganic solid electrolyte2) in place of organic solvent electrolytes has been desired. However, due to the high resistance of the cell, the current value which can be obtained is low, and as a result, this type of battery has not reached practical application.
