1) Abstract
Founded in 1958 as GoldStar, Korea based LG Electronics has grown to become one of today’s most successful companies in consumer electronics. With an annual operating profit of $608m in 2006, approximately 82000 employees and 84% of sales being made abroad LG Electronics is clearly an international heavyweight in consumer electronics. Despite fierce competition from rivals such as Sony Inc of Japan and Samsung Electronics also from Korea, LG Electronics is striving for further growth and is determined to be amongst the top 3 companies in every operating field by 2010. In order to understand and evaluate how these ambitious goals can be achieved the following analysis will give a thorough insight into LG Electronics international business operations. Special focus will be paid to the organizational structure, international strategy, the site selection procedure as well as the factors influencing the different modes of market entry. After analyzing and evaluating these fields further recommendations for will be made in order to achieve the ambitious vision that has been set for 2010.
