This study is to make Toegye’s Seonyusi as object of study as a partof inquiring into the specific qualities of Toegye's poems with various
subject matters. In his Seonyusi, various worlds of consciousness are
found out, and are reflected according to his situation and position.
Among the various themes contained in Seonyusi, this study is to try to
examine out how the Rak and the Heung are embodied through
Seonyu(船遊), focused on Toegye’s Rak and Heung.
In order to examine out the Rak and the Heung in Seonyu, this
study, to begin with, is to investigate the correlationship between
Seonyu and water, and then to define the meaning of Rak and Heung
in Seonyu. Consequently, this study identifies how the ‘Rak’ is revealed,
and then how it becomes ‘Rak of becoming one with all creatures(萬物
化生)’, and at last how it is embodied into ‘Rak of getting out of
worldly things(脫俗隱逸)’. The following work is to examine the
revelation of 'Heung' through Seonyu. This study is to examine out the
sincerity of Toegye's Heung by way of the Heung of a meeting with
beautiful sceneries fulfilled in space of relaxation with the surface of the
water in the background and the Heung of strolling around mysterious
and extraordinary places. Through these discussions above, this study is
to try to identify what the aesthetic qualities of ‘the Rak’ and ‘the Heung’ in his Seonyusi is.
