본 연구는 특수학교에 재직 중인 특수교사들의 통합교육에 대한 인식을 알아보고
이를 통하여 장차 특수학교의 정체성 재정립과 일반학교와의 관계성 모색에 필요한
기초적인 자료와 정보를 제공하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 B와 D광역시에 소재한 특
수학교의 113명의 특수교사였으며, 연구방법은 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구내용으로
는 특수학교에 있는 특수교사들의 통합교육에 대한 인식과 더불어 특수교사들의 집
단요인별 통합교육에 대한 인식의 차이를 알아보는 것으로 구성되었다. 본 연구에서
도출된 주요 연구결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 첫째, 대부분의 특수교사들은
통합교육의 개념, 통합교육의 비율, 장애유형별 통합교육의 현황 등 기초적인 지식과
정보의 이해가 부족하였다. 둘째, 특수교사들은 대부분 일반학교에서의 통합교육의
필요성이나 기본적인 의미에 대해서는 대체로 동의하였다. 둘째, 그럼에도 불구하고
실제적으로 통합교육현장에서의 부정적인 인식이나 교육환경의 미흡 등을 주요 이유
로 장애학생들이 특수학교로의 진학을 더 선호하였고, 또한 이는 오늘날 통합교육의
시대에 특수학교의 주된 존재 이유로 언급하였다. 셋째, 특수학교와 일반학교 간의
통합교육 관련 연계 프로그램의 필요성과 의미에도 적극적인 지지를 보였지만, 실제
로 두 학교 간의 상호작용이 어려운 원인은 대체적으로 일반학교의 무관심과 비협조
등의 책임으로 이해하고 있었다. 결론적으로 통합교육의 목적을 달성하기 위해서는
특수교육뿐만 아니라 일반교육계의 등 사회적인 인식의 개선, 이해 및 상호협력이
절실히 요구된다. 아울러 통합교육의 시대에 특수교사들은 특수교육과 더불어 통합
교육에 대한 전문적인 자질의 함양이 특수학교의 새로운 정체성을 정립하고 일반학
교와의 관계성을 재설정하는 가장 핵심적인 요소라 할 것이다.

영어 초록

This study puts its purpose in examining the recognition of special
education teachers about inclusive education to provide basic materials,
necessary for reestablishing the identity of special schools and exploring the
relationships between special schools and regular schools. The study subjects
were 113 special education teachers, serving in Special Schools, located in B
and D metropolitan cities. As to the study contents, the contents were
regarding the recognition of special education teachers about inclusive
education and differences in the recognition of special education teachers with
regard to the inclusive education by classifying group factors. The study
results, obtained in this study, are as follows: First, it was found that
most special education teachers were lacking in basic knowledge and
understanding of information such as the concept of inclusive education, the
proportion of inclusive education, and the present condition of inclusive
education according to the types of disability.
Second, special education teachers generally agreed on the need for inclusive
education in regular schools. However, they showed a preference for the
entering of disabled students to special education schools by pointing out
some reasons such as the negative recognition of the inclusive education field
and inadequate educational environment. In addition, they mentioned that
special schools are really needed in the era of inclusive education.
Third, special education teachers showed an active support for the necessity
of linking programs with the inclusive education between special schools and
regular schools. However, they thought that the reasons for the difficulty in
interaction between special education schools and regular schools would be
due to the indifference and non-cooperation of regular schools. In conclusion, the improvement in the social recognition of the general education field as
well as the special education field, mutual understanding, and cooperation are
keenly required to achieve the aim of inclusive education.
Furthermore, the cultivation of professional qualifications for inclusive
education is required for special education teachers in the era of inclusive
education like today, which is the most essential factor to establish the new
identity of special schools and redefine the relationship between special
schools and regular schools.
